Regardless of what your opinion is on Seaworld, there is something to be said about the Orcas. They are well trained. How does Seaworld do it? What’s the magic to conditioning a apex predator and how can you condition yourself?

The short answer is this. You have to praise progress.

Most people do not praise progress. Instead, they force themselves into overdrive, and then get mad when something goes wrong – completely disregarding all of the good progress they made along the way!

This act of calling out the bad and ignoring the positive is know as the Gotcha method; it is what most parents use on their children.

The next time you are working on something, do not forget to praise yourself. You might not be a completely calm person, but did you have a calm thought instead of a anxious one. Recognize that progress.
