When my father was a young man, he tried to immigrate to Germany.
During the immigration process, he was required to remain at a boarding home until his paperwork was completely processed. However, there was one caveat. He was not allowed to work. He could only wait.
Since I’m currently at the age when my dad first immigrated, I’ve recently been thinking about my attitude towards work.
When I was younger, I was eager to work. However, this attitude hasn’t held up against the test of time. These days I slink from work.
- “Ugh, I have to write this email.”
- “Why do I have to apply to these many jobs.”
- “XYZ is such a hassle.”
It seems that I’ve forgotten that work is a privilege.
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison
While this article does not depict me in a fair light, it may be useful to someone else who has forgotten the beauty of work.
